I always used to wonder this when I would take my items to a store to have them monogrammed for my children - why is it so expensive to put 3 initials on an a-line dress or a towel? It seems like it should be pretty simple and cheap to put a name on something since it just uses a little bite of thread, right? I have always tried to keep this cost low but last September I had to increase my prices because I realized that I was basically working for free. For one towel to be embroidered, I use a variety of things. Each one being fairly expensive, especially thread. Here are a few things I use:
Spray adhesive, stabilizer, thread, solvy and tender touch (this is used on t-shirts so the inside of the shirt is not scratchy against your little ones skin)
There is also the time it takes to create the design in my embroidery software, hooping the item and putting it on the machine and stitching it out. All of this can take 15 min- 1 hour depending on the item. If I am doing a stack of towels, all with the same design, it might go faster once the design is created in my software. I do think my prices are quite a deal now that I am on the other side of embroidery and I know everything that goes into to putting a simple monogram on a piece of clothing. For my price list you can go here.
