Why is embroidery so expensive?

I always used to wonder this when I would take my items to a store to have them monogrammed for my children - why is it so expensive to put 3 initials on an a-line dress or a towel? It seems like it should be pretty simple and cheap to put a name on something since it just uses a little bite of thread, right? I have always tried to keep this cost low but last September I had to increase my prices because I realized that I was basically working for free. For one towel to be embroidered, I use a variety of things. Each one being fairly expensive, especially thread. Here are a few things I use:
Spray adhesive, stabilizer, thread, solvy and tender touch (this is used on t-shirts so the inside of the shirt is not scratchy against your little ones skin)

There is also the time it takes to create the design in my embroidery software, hooping the item and putting it on the machine and stitching it out. All of this can take 15 min- 1 hour depending on the item. If I am doing a stack of towels, all with the same design, it might go faster once the design is created in my software. I do think my prices are quite a deal now that I am on the other side of embroidery and I know everything that goes into to putting a simple monogram on a piece of clothing. For my price list you can go here.

Here are a a few items from this week:

Fonts

I have added new fonts for you to choose from! Thanks to 8 Claws and Paw and The Itch 2 Stitch who created these digitized fonts. I have added these to my fonts page as well (you can click on the Fonts tab at the top of this page). The Mason font is a font I have offered for a while (called slim jim) but I did not have capital letters with it but now I do! It works well for boys items.

More pictures to come later this week.

Mother's Day

Happy Belated Mother's Day to all my customers! I am a little behind getting this post out but I do realize that probably most of my customers are mothers or grandmothers or aunts who serve as 2nd mothers! I was greeted by my children with a tray full of yummy breakfast food and BIG cup of heaven coffee. Actually, the day was perfect from start to finish and I will not share all the moments that filled the day because I like to hold some things close. I know the mother's day celebration will change over time but I will be remembering this one for a long time. And just for laughs, here is what my 5 year old thinks I look like :

Summer makes me happy.

It was hard to send the kids back to school after Spring Break and it makes me very excited for the summer. I am thinking of a somewhat "restricted" workload this summer. If I do not restrict myself my kids surely will do it for me. We'll see, I will probably post about this closer to when school gets out.

Cupcake Dress - $30 without name, $35 with name
Thanks for looking! I will hopefully have another blog post later this week once I can get some more pictures edited.
