The End of Summer

Summer is coming to an end and I am back from vacation. I am still getting through orders that came in while Lucy's Closet was closed so be patient with me and I will get through all my emails. I will also have new pictures coming soon!

These two special girls were my inspiration for Lucy's Closet, thankfully they still love designing their clothes with me!

VACATION!

This is my last post before vacation. Lucy's Closet will be closed until August 29th. I will not have access to or be checking email until the 29th. Thank you so much for your understanding! Here are a few things I did this week. Time to have some end of the summer fun with my family!

POLICY CHANGES

I have been thinking for a while about some policy and procedure changes. I suppose this is the natural progression when a business is growing. This is not meant to aggravate my customers - who are so loyal! This is to allow me to keep my prices low, shipping low, and also protect me financially. If you have already placed an order but have not paid me yet, do not worry!!! I will start these policies for all purchases and orders placed after September 1st.

• PRICES: Embroidering people's personal items is a side business for Lucy's Closet. It is very time consuming and I have decided that what I am charging is an AWESOME deal! I charge less than 1/2 of what the local embroidery stores charge. When I factor in stabilizer, thread and my time I realize that if I am going to continue this part of my company I need to charge a little more. And I do mean just a little more. New prices for embroidering things that are brought to me:

1. Single Letter - $5
2. Name or Monogram - $8
3. Applique - $10
4. Applique and Name/Monogram - $12

• PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED PRIOR TO STARTING ITEMS. This applies to the items that are brought to me as well as the items I sell. It is unfortunate that I have to do this, but I have to protect myself. If I put a name on an item and then it is not paid for, I might be stuck with that item. If you are local you can mail me a check or bring check or cash to my house. I also accept paypal. If you are not local, you can mail me a check or I can send you a paypal invoice. I must operate like any other online boutique and when I make purchases online I have to pay for them first, seems logical that Lucy's Closet should do the same. Unfortunately, if a customer is mailing a check it will take longer to process and ship their items because the check will have to get to me and clear before the items will be started. I would really encourage people to utilize paypal. It is very safe and has great buyer protection. At this time, this is my method for accepting credit cards.
• SHIPPING: This is a possibility, but not set in stone, yet. I am probably going to require insurance and track and confirm for orders over a certain amount. This will mean a slight increase in shipping rates. Right now shipping is usually between $4-6. I have always tried to keep this as low as possible for the customer, nobody likes paying too much for shipping! However, after having an issue with the post office misplacing something, I have decided that at a certain dollar value, orders will have to ship priority and will have to have track and confirm and insurance. This means that those orders will probably have an increase in shipping, instead of $4-6 it will be more like $8-10. More to come on this in the future, thanks for understanding!

One last thing, Lucy's Closet will be closed from August 20-29. There will be no access to Internet so I will not be returning emails or phone calls during that time. I hoping to give my family 100% of my time - well almost 100%. Also, as of today, I am not taking anymore back to school orders. All backpacks, tote bags, and clothing for the first day have either been completed or are scheduled to be completed prior to the 1st day of school. Thank you for your understanding! Please plan ahead for Christmas - Lucy's Closet is always busiest in August and December and I may have to cut-off Christmas orders on December 1st this year, especially if you are not local and your items need to be shipped.

New Fabrics, New appliques, New Items

This might be a lengthy post because I do have quite a few things to cover. First, Lucy's Closet will be going on vacation for one week of August. So, that means we currently have a turn around time of 3 weeks. Please email me if you have any questions about that. I have listed a few fabrics I have in stock and a few new designs I have. These designs can be done on anything (towels, dresses, jon jons , shirts, etc).

The paisley cotton fabric above was so striking I could not resist. I think a large orange appliqued initial would be adorable on this dress. Or a pillowcase dress with orange bows. The dress is $30 and if you would also like orange leggings to make the outfit, add $10. A great fall fabric!

This back and white zebra corduroy fabric was irresistible. This dress would look great with a red monogram or name on the front and red leggings. This dress is $30 and if you would like red leggings to complete and outfit the dress and leggings together is $40.

This lime green and brown corduroy would also look precious with a large appliqued initial in brown. I can also add brown leggings to this. Dress $30 Leggings $10

The initial shirts above were done for a family photo. These shirts are $15 each. They can also be done in long sleeve with uppercase or lowercase letters. They can also be done in different fabrics and color schemes.

Here are my newest appliques. These are not my stitches, they were created by the companies that digitized the designs. Therefore, I am listing which site those come from. I get my designs from a variety of places, all listed on the left side of my blog. I may not have the same fabric to recreate so please look at the outline of the designs not the fabrics used to test them out. For example, the ice skate could be create onto a dress in purple instead of pink. The slide could be orange instead of blue.

Oops! I forgot a few pictures in my post earlier tonight and since it is backpack season I thought I would add a few more to give you all some ideas of things that can be done to the backpacks. None of the backpacks below are the style that I sell, I think 2 are from Target and one is Lands End. Add a name, monogram or design to your backpack for $5.

This jacket is for my nephew and I added the monogram. I do not sell this monogram. $5 to personalize most items that are brought to me. $10 for an applique.

Things have been busy the last week and when that happens...my blog post is the last thing on the list. Here are a lot of pictures, some of these things are new.
